'We have lived in the same house for 25 years.
A big house in a small village. When we first entered the house we immediately felt that something was strange: it seemed like a place that had suffered damage in the past.
Not materially, but emotionally.
For FAN we make a line drawing of iron and provide it with text: our stories about this house; about how we found it, in what condition we it was and how we cured the sick house.'
The folly 'Huispijn' is an image of a house, an image like an echo. An echo of the past that old houses have through the generations of people who have lived there.
When Paula Biemans and Klaas Kloosterhuis first entered their house 25 years ago, they immediately felt that something strange was going on: it seemed like a place that had suffered damage in the past. The house bore traces of a painful past. Through renovations, but especially by living there, having children, playing there, loving, crying, talking, and making art, the house seems to have healed.
'Huispijn' is an iron line drawing of the house, every centimeter of which has been touched, bent, forged, welded and also described with hand-engraved text about pain and healing. It is an ode to their house that has had to see so much, attention to victims of inappropriate behavior and a call to bystanders to start the conversation and not look away.
Former residents and their relatives are involved during the making process of forging the iron rods. Their strength and emotions are forever captured in the steel through the hammer that deforms the iron.
The labor-intensive process of making reflects how happiness was brought back into the house through play and creation.
