The Venus series is referring to thousands of years of history when goddesses were worshiped, who hide in the earth.
Paula Biemans makes figurines from clay; sea clay of the Eems estuarium. With a spade in the ground rooting it in the layers of time; from now until long ago.
The deeper she digs, the closer she gets to the origin.
Paula bakes the figurines in her own wood-burning stove
around which the figures were buried long ago.
