Baubo
From the Baubo series

Referring to thousands of years of history when goddesses were worshiped,who hide in the earth,
Paula Biemans makes figurines from clay;
sea clay of the Eems delta.
With a spade in the ground rooting it in the layers of time;
from now until long ago.
The deeper she digs, the closer she gets to the origin.
Paula bakes the figurines in her own wood-burning stove
around which the figures were buried long ago.

Phallus and vulva, strength and regeneration.

The river Eems as an abused flood.Men get wet suites, to conquer her, possess her and to gather courage to build their factories on her banks.

In conflict Baubo offers herself to conciliate or to deter.

Nudity as ultimate dignity.
